  • 1 1/2 pounds chicken wings
  • 1/2 shallot roughly minced
  • 4 cloves garlic roughly minced
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger sliced
  • 1/2 cup Water warm
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon peanut oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1-2 star anise
  • 2 tablespoons light soy sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 2 tablespoons of low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of dark soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of red wine

Step 1: Marinate the chicken wings

To begin with, marinate the chicken wings with all the ingredients for marinade as mentioned above for about 20-30 minutes.

Step 2: Heat the pot

To heat up the Instapot, press the Saute button. Post this press the adjust button so that you can go to the Saute more function. Keep checking on how hot your pot is before you put the chicken wings in it. Wait until the indicator says Hot as this will prevent the chicken wings from sticking against the pot.

Step 3: Make the chicken wings brown

Add 1 tablespoon of peanut oil on the pot and make sure that you cover the entire bottom part of the pot with the oil coat. Now let the oil warm up and then add the marinated chicken wings in it. Let the chicken wings become brown on one side and only after that should you flip it on the other side.

Step 4: Add the essentials

Once the chicken wings become brown, reduce the heat of the pot to medium. Now add star anise and sliced ginger in it and stir for a minute. Post this, add the minced garlic and stir as long as you can get the fragrance of it, which should be about half a minute.

Step 5: Make a light gravy

Add a tablespoon of honey with half a cup of water in the pot. Try to deglaze the bottom of the pot with the help of a wooden spoon.

Step 6: Cook the chicken wings

You can close the lid of the instapot by now and put it on high pressure for about 5 minutes. Once it is pressure cooked, turn the heat off and naturally release it for about 10 minutes. Taste the sauce first and if you feel there is a need for more honey or salt you can add to it, as desired.

Step 7: Thicken the soy sauce

Remove all the chicken wings from the pot and keep it aside. Now turn the heat of the pot to medium. Mix half a teaspoon of cornstarch to the sauce along with a tablespoon of cold water. Now stir the mixture and see if you have cooked it to desired thickness.

Step 8: Coat up the chicken wings

Now turn the heat off again and add the chicken wings back to the pot. Mix it well with the soy sauce and your honey garlic chicken wings are ready to be served.

  2. This was delicious ! Didn’t have sesame seed oil or parsley ,used olive oil – and drained the off the grease from browning the chicken , since I didn’t have sesame oil I added 1/2 tsp tahini to the sauce , deglazed the ip with some of the sauce before I put the chicken back in and cooked for 20 mins , thickened the sauce with tapioca starch . Came out fall off the bone tender and juicy. Will cook again!
