Recipe: Instant Pot Turkey Chili

Instant Pot Turkey Chili is a ground turkey that is simmered with roasted tomatoes, garlic, onions, green pepper, beans and a lot of spices. The result to this is a lip-smacking bowl of chili that is then garnished with cheese, Fritos and green onions. You could even use ground beef in lieu of ground turkey, if you prefer beef.

Ingredients For Preparing Instant Pot Turkey Chili

  • 1 Pound Ground Turkey
  • 2 Tablespoons of Olive Oil
  • 1 Medium Diced Onion
  • 1 Medium Green Diced and Cored Bell Pepper
  • 3 Medium Carrots, Peeled and Thinly Sliced
  • 3 Stalks of Thinly Sliced Celery
  • 3 Cloves of Minced Garlic
  • 1 28-ounce of Can Crushed Tomatoes
  • 1 15-ounce of Can Black Beans, Should Be Drained and Rinsed
  • 1 4-ounce of Can Chopped Green Chilies, Should Be Drained
  • ½ Cup of Water
  • 3 Tablespoons of Chili Powder
  • 1 ½ Teaspoons of Ground Cumin
  • 1 Teaspoon of Kosher Salt
  • 1 Teaspoon of Tamari or Soy Sauce, Optional
  • Sliced Scallions, Shredded Cheddar Cheese, Sour Cream and Diced Avocado to Be Used as Toppings for Serving.

Ingredients For Preparing Instant Pot Turkey Chili

Step 1: Heat up the pot and then cook the turkey in it

First place the olive oil in the cooker insert and turn the sauté on, heat it until shimmering. Put turkey inside it and cook, stirring for up to 4 minutes to break it up into small pieces. You can stop stirring after the pink is gone.

Step 2: Add the other essentials

You can then add the onions, carrots, celery, garlic, and bell pepper, then stir and cook for 3 minutes. After which you can add green chili, chili powder, black beans, tomatoes, cumin, tamari/soy sauce, salt and then water. Stir very well to mix all the food contents.

Step 3: Place the pot in high pressure

Now secure the cooker lid and close its vent. Now set cook time for 20 minutes in high pressure.

Step 4: Release the pressure

After time run outs, open steam valve to release pressure, then remove the lid and stir the pork chili. You can taste and add salt or any seasoning needed and serve with toppings of your desire. Remember to keep the pressure/steam out of your face.

Step 5: Leftovers?

Any leftover can be refrigerated for up to four days or frozen for up to three months.

A Little Guide On Chili

If you are to cook chili on stove, it will take you hours but doing the same in an Instapot, and with lesser time, will still retain the taste and flavour of it. Chili is a personalised dish so in case you feel you prefer beef over turkey, you could opt for it instead of turkey. It is the perfect combination of good taste with good flavour as it consists of turkey, lots of vegetables and a lot of spices to create for you a hearty bowl of spicy chili. The heat driver in a chili comes from the chilli powder in it so you could choose to decide the level of it. If you are someone who loves mild chili, then use pepper based chili powder, but if you like heavier chili powder then go for chipotle as well. This dish takes a maximum of 20 minutes to be prepared and cooked. You could add chopped red onions, sour cream, sliced onions and grated cheese for its toppings.
